Event: The Architects: Shunt at the Biscuit Factory
Location: The Biscuit Factory Theatre, SE16
Experimental theatre company Shunt are putting on a play about the Greek labyrinth myth in a south London warehouse.
The Architects is a play based on the Jorge Luis Borges short story The House of Asterion retelling the Minotaur myth from the perspective of the Minotaur.
Shunt’s productions are not devised by a single author but produced by the whole company with audience help to create the action. Their performances take place in unusual locations – The Architects is being put on in a former biscuit factory in Bermondsey – for which they have previously won the Peter Brook Empty Space Award for their innovative use of disused buildings.
Their last production was Money performed at an old tobacco warehouse, loosely based on the Emile Zola novel L’Argent.
Bookings are through the National Theatre box office, since the National’s artistic director Nicholas Hytner developed a relationship with the company, which includes helping with promotion and fundraising.
