Event: The Uncanny – art by Berndnaut Smilde and Adeline de Monseignat

Location: Ronchini Gallery, W1

The Ronchini Gallery in Mayfair is presenting an exhibition called The Uncanny opening in January, of the work of two young artists, Berndnaut Smilde and Adeline de Monseignat, curated by James Putman.

Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde took the art world by storm earlier this year with the creation of nimbus clouds in indoor gallery spaces, voted one of Time Magazine’s Inventions of the Year. His clouds, reminiscent of Magritte, are created using a fog machine in climate-controlled room and last for seconds before disappearing. He works in installations, sculpture and photography and recently exhibited at the Out of Focus Photography exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

Adeline de Monseignat is a London-based artist, born in Monaco, specialising in sculpture and installation work. Her art is inspired by Surrealism, and is often slightly unsettling, such as her furry glass eyeballs for which she was the Public Vote winner at the 2012 Catlin Prize.

The Umbria-based gallery opened in London in February 2012, mainly showing contemporary Italian art.
