Event: Tango Fire and Midnight Tango
Location: Peacock Theatre, WC2 & Phoenix Theatre, WC2
There are two tango shows in London theatres starting at the end of January: Argentinean dance company Tango Fire’s Flames of Desire at the Sadler’s Wells venue the Peacock Theatre; and for fans of the BBC dancing series Strictly Come Dancing, the show Midnight Tango stars the television series’ tango specialists Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace.
Tango Fire is a popular Argentinean dance troupe that includes five world champion dancers led by their choreographer German Cornejo and accompanied by the band Quarteto Fuego, who perform the music of the great tango composers, Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel and others. The show demonstrates the dance through its history from the Buenos Aires dance halls to the present day. It runs until 24 Feb.
The star attraction of Midnight Tango are the television show’s professional tango stars, showing off their nifty footwork and extraordinary angles, with a supporting cast of 10 other dancers in a show produced by ex-Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, accompanied by the tango band, Tango Siempre. It ends on 2 March.
