Location: Almeida Theatre, N1
The Turn of the Screw is an adaptation of the 1898 Henry James ghost story novella brought to the stage by British horror brand Hammer.
It is about a governess (played by Anna Madeley) who arrives at a remote estate to look after two orphan children. Although enchanted by her two wards, she discovers the estate is haunted and must confront her fears and protect the children from the danger around them.
The play, at off-West End theatre the Almeida, is a classic gothic tale directed by Lindsay Posner and adapted by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, whose play Her Naked Skin, was the first full length play by a woman shown on the National Theatre’s main Olivier stage.
This production is Hammer’s first ever theatre production. The brand known for its horror films, had a recent hit with the film The Woman in Black. This is the company’s first foray into theatre.
