2 Luxury Shopping Days Out London

Lights, Camera, London! exhibition

from 19/12/2012 to 31/12/2013

Event: Lights, Camera, London! exhibition

Location: London Film Museum: Covent Garden, WC2

London takes centre stage in the year long Lights! Camera! London! exhibition, held at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden.

The exhibition about London’s place in film history covers both the city’s film industry and London as featured on the screen.

One section of the exhibit looks at the history of the city’s film industry from the studios of the early years (there were around 90 in the industry’s heyday) to today’s work in the post-production houses in Soho working on films such as X-Men and Harry Potter.

As well as the history of the industry, there are some historic images of the city caught on film, from Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 to scenes of the city in the aftermath of the Blitz in the 1940s, shown alongside fictional apocalyptic footage of the city being destroyed, as well as footage of London life that has now disappeared and can only be seen on film, such as of Covent Garden market.

The exhibition takes place at the film museum’s Covent Garden venue, that opened last year and runs until 31 Dec 2013.
