Roald Dahl’s Matilda

from 24/11/2011 to 25/05/2014

Event: Matilda the Musical

Location: Cambridge Theatre, WC2

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book Matilda has won a string of awards – including seven Oliviers – and has hit all the right notes with the critics too.

Matilda is an unloved, but very gifted child with an extraordinary imagination, truly awful parents only interested in watching telly and a ghastly bullying headmistress who swings the girls by their pigtails. When she discovers she has special powers she decides it’s time she gets her own back.

The story is a dark one, but the production is tongue in cheek, comic musician Tim Minchin’s songs are witty and the story has been brought up-to-date by playwright and screenwriter Dennis Kelly.

The show is currently booking until May 2014 in London, check the website for ticket information as well as song clips to watch to get a flavour of the show.

Take the kids, the show is suitable for ages 6 and up … and up (adults will enjoy it too), it’s a lot of fun.

Also running in the West End is the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (booking until 31 May 2014).

And of the creative team behind Matilda: Tim Minchin can be seen playing Judas Iscariot in an arena tour of Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar (in London on 13 Oct 2013); and Dennis Kelly’s new play The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas is on at the Royal Court Theatre in Autumn 2013 (5 Sept-19 Oct 2013).

Matilda the Musical is on at the Cambridge Theatre in Covent Garden, booking until 25 May 2014 with matinees on Wed, Sat & Sun.
