Collider at the Science Museum

from 13/11/2013 to 06/05/2014

Event: Large Hadron Collider Exhibition

Location: Science Museum, SW7

Step inside the world’s greatest experiment at the Science Museum, which is installing a model of the Large Hadron Collider at their South Kensington base.

Collider is an exhibition that shows the technology behind the particle physics experiment at Cern, in Switzerland, recreating the conditions of the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago.

The exhibition is designed to take visitors to the heart of a collision that demonstrates the existence (theoretically) of the Higgs boson or “God particle” that won Professors Higgs and Englert the 2013 Nobel Prize for Physics.

It is a mixture of theatre and science, with video and sound explanations of the science as well as models of the equipment used in the Large Hadron Collider experiment and  artefacts from Cern.

The Science Museum houses one of the largest permanent collections on science, industry and technology in the world, with items including Stephenson’s Rocket, that launched the steam age, and the Apollo 10 space capsule.

The exhibition Collider is on at the Science Museum on Exhibition Road in South Kensington from 13 Nov 2013 to 6 May 2014, open daily from 10am to 6pm (last entry 5.15pm), closed 24 to 26 Dec. This exhibition is a ticketed event with timed entry, book online or at the museum.
