Event: Richard III starring Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman is starring as Shakespeare’s Richard III in the West End in a production directed by Jamie Lloyd, celebrating the 450th anniversary of the playright’s birth this year.
The Shakespeare play about the doomed King Richard, opens the second season of Lloyd’s Trafalgar Transformed, following on from a successful first run that included James McAvoy starring in Macbeth.

Freeman’s Sherlock co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, is also taking on Richard III on television on BBC2 this year as part of the BBC’s Shakespeare’s History Plays series, as well as Hamlet on stage next year (August to October 2015 at the Barbican).
Fans of the Bard should also look out for the new stage version of Shakespeare in Love over the summer (at the Noel Coward Theatre, WC2, 2nd July to 25th October 2014).
Shakespeare’s Richard III is on at the Trafalgar Studios on Whitehall just off Trafalgar Square from 1st July to 27th September 2014.
