Snowflakes, soldier mice and sugar plum fairies
The classical Christmas dream world of enchanted toys, warrior mice and the Sugar Plum Fairy is once again beautifully brought to life by the Royal Ballet for a six-week run at the Royal Opera House.
First performed in St Petersburg in December 1892, over the decades this timeless tale has become a definitive Christmas tradition around the world. It has long been a highlight of the Royal Ballet’s festive season with families returning year after year to share the experience of seeing world-class ballet live on the stage.
Every piece in Tchaikovsky’s famous score seems to conjure up Christmas – from the Russian Dance and Waltz of the Flowers to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. When these instantly recognisable melodies combine with the elegant set designs and costumes, the audience cannot help but fall under The Nutcracker’s festive spell.
This is a wonderful Christmas tradition for the whole family.
The Nutcracker is perfect for bringing the magic of the festive season to the stage.
