Summer Rooftop Escapes at The Berkeley

27 July 2025

When summer arrives in the city a new layer of hospitality emerges, as London’s rooftop bars and restaurants take top spot on the social scene. Lively, exclusive and offering (quite literally) a new perspective on the town, there’s no better place to enjoy the warmer months, gather your friends, and recreate a holiday-like atmosphere without ever leaving the capital. This season The Berkeley is capturing that alfresco spirit and crafting its own rooftop cocktail bar culture – inviting guests to look to the skies and embrace elevated summer living.

A rooftop reimagined

Emerging onto a sundeck to be greeted by lemon trees, striped sun loungers, and a gleaming azure pool is an experience normally associated more with Italy than London. But that is precisely the inspiration behind our summer rooftop pop-up, Capri in the City’. Inspired by the laid-back chic of Italian beach clubs, aperitivo culture, and the beauty of Capri and the Amalfi Coast, this season The Berkeley’s rooftop bar is channelling pure Mediterranean indulgence.

Food designed for sharing

Whether you’re seeking a light bite as you sip cocktails against the sunset, or you’re bringing an appetite worthy of a family feast, the Capri in the City menu promises a flavour of the Mediterranean. Sharing platters are laden with prosciutto, mortadella and bruschetta. Meanwhile small plates allow groups to graze on all-Italian favourites – think baked artichokes with Parmesan, colourful Caprese salad, and marinated octopus with fava beans. Heads will be turned by the smell of pizzas fresh from the rooftop oven, and indulgent pasta dishes brim with seafood and roasted vegetables – just like Nonna used to make. Even dessert is a joint affair. Order two spoons with a traditional tiramisu to share.

Sky-high serves

No London rooftop bar is complete without a carefully curated cocktail menu, for toasts silhouetted against the skyline. Bringing a refreshing edge to sun-filled days, our summer selection is infused with Italian style and flavours. The Amalfi Gin Granita pairs iconic Malfy Gin with freshly squeezed lemon and sugar, a zesty salute to summer. Or, as the evening progresses, try the bold yet balanced taste of another classic Italian – the Negroni. Whether sipping wine with old friends or enjoying an impromptu night of cocktails under the stars, the city’s energy and atmosphere is all around.

Extend the experience

Capri in the City is open to all visitors (simply make a reservation or arrive early to claim a spot), with evenings starting at 7.30pm. But to make the most of The Berkeley’s chic peak, book an overnight stay to complete the experience. Residents can escape the sultry heat of the city and enjoy the ultimate pool day, including to-your-lounger dining and summer-ready cocktails.

Beyond alfresco evenings on the rooftop, The Berkeley’s summer appeal flows down to street level too. Nestled between Knightsbridge and the beautiful green spaces of Hyde Park, the summer months here are perfect for easy-living days with very little on the agenda. Mornings look bright and beautiful when begun with coffee and patisserie from Cedric Grolet’s counter. Then perhaps you’ll take a turn through the park and aim for the row boats of The Serpentine. Explore the boutiques and couturiers of Knightsbridge, or embrace the cool serenity of Surrenne Belgravia. Then retreat to your beautifully designed suite or room to refresh and relax, before returning sky-side to a welcoming breeze and panoramic views of the city.
