• London Guide - Spring 2013
    • Out and about in London

Recommended by our very own General Manager, Justin Pinchbeck

Old hands and newbies alike will be thrilled to discover some of the things London has to offer this spring, and we’re looking forward to helping you find the best. Some might seem obvious, but there are a few ever-so-slightly off the beaten track that will add the perfect note to your stay here with us.

      David Bowie at V&A

One thing we can’t wait to see is the V&A’s international retrospective of David Bowie (23 March to 28 July). Yes there are handwritten lyrics, photography and instruments to see, but there’s also a chance to see some of his craziest costumes – it should be great fun.

Radio Rewrite at the Royal Festival Hall

It’s not for everyone, but one contemporary concert I’m looking forward to is The London Sinfonietta’s world premiere of Steve Reich’s Radio Rewrite at the Royal Festival Hall on 5 March.  A new work inspired by the music of Radiohead from the master of minimalism, it’s also a chance to see him perform Clapping Music.

      University Boat Race

Sports fans will want to hit the river Thames for the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race (31 March), one of the world’s most watched sporting events – and the start line is just a little downriver from us under Putney Bridge. Of course, if you’re heading out that way and have chicklings in tow, you could always head to Kew Gardens for the annual Easter Egg Hunt – great fun for big kids and small.

After all that running around, I recommend coming back for a restorative tea (and perhaps a glass or two of champagne), to enjoy the hotel before dinner.
