      The Collins Room (formerly the Caramel Room) is a defining element of the newly-renovated Berkeley: a light-filled, contemporary and charming dining room that welcomes guests at flexible times for a light breakfast, lunch, Prêt-à-Portea, dinner – and your choice of drinks in between.

      The menus are designed by executive chef Shaun Whatling, with an emphasis on fresh, daily specials and beautifully-crafted, classically British dishes using the finest ingredients sourced from forest, field, seashore and stream.

      Named as a tribute to the legendary designer David Collins, the space has now been stunningly reimagined by Collins’s protégé and creative director for 15 years Robert Angell, working with the British architects Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners who masterminded the glass extension to the room.

    Executive chef Shaun Whatling brings a new approach to the classic British menu, including at least five fresh daily specials that combine wonderful ingredients gathered from forest, field, stream and seashore.

     A light breakfast for guests-on-the-go is served every day, and freshly-baked pastries and flavoursome coffee are also available to take away from the beautiful marble counter.

    Lunch and dinner are both relaxed and informal, with few restrictions on timings and the opportunity to linger over expertly-prepared, delicious dishes in a comfortable corner.

     

    The Berkeley’s legendary afternoon tea for fashionistas, Prêt-à-Portea, is served every afternoon – with a glass of champagne if you wish.

     

    The Collins Room, named as a tribute to the designer David Collins, was reimagined in 2016 by Collins’s protégé Robert Angell, working closely with the British architects Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners who masterminded the glass extension to the room. The colour palette reflects the cool blue and lavender tones which were prevalent in David’s work (such as the Blue Bar).

    Working with custom wallpaper designer de Gournay, Angell  created a floral wallpaper that takes inspiration from the classic de Gournay cherry blossom.

    Concave wall-mounted mirrors and petal chandeliers bring a light airiness and glamour to the room. The cherry blossom motif, with quirky birds, has been used to create whimsical lighting, playfully dotted around the room.

    Flooring is detailed with mosaic flower petals and inlaid rugs to evoke the look of fallen leaves. Wall screens featuring hydrangeas complete this stunning ode to nature.  

    By night, elegant rotating screens take the room from afternoon tea to a relaxed bar vibe.
